SAAACA Gauteng Membership

 

 Collectability Guidelines

SAAACA maintains an active membership of about 800 members for the year, active in the field of arms (Antique and Modern), ammunition, edged weapons general militaria, medals and decorations, books, models and miniatures, vehicles and many other fields

 

Members can be found in South Africa and our neighbouring territories such as Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and in several overseas Countries. Membership includes all members of the Historical Firearms Society of South Africa (HFSSA) based in Capetown, South Africa, who recently chose to incorporate into SAAACA

 

Formal recognition as a Collector is a significant privilege, hard won and worth protecting, thus the application process and selection criteria of the Association are rigorous. Applicants are well advised to extensively motivate their Application. 

 

Application for membership is made by submitting the relevant forms obtainable from the SAAACA office and is subject to the following: (Copies of the sample Forms posted on this Site will not be accepted).

 

 Completion in detail of the Application Forms and accompanying Questionnaire

 Two independent, contactable, character references

 A proposer and seconder from within the association, who should be members of good standing of the association or other similar, recognised (accredited) organisation

 Completion of an affidavit relating to arms and/or violence related offences

 The provision of an additional motivation in the media of the applicants choice, which may include written, audio or visual material - Please note that formal Collectors Status is a privilege and applicants should be prepared to extensively and thoroughly motivate their Application (see  Collectability Guidelines)

 Agree and be subject to, a reasonable background check

 The attending of an interview by members of the Membership Committee

 On successful application, payment of the prevailing, non-refundable Application Fee and the pro-rate portion of the Annual Membership Fee applicable at the date of acceptance

 

Conditions of Application

 

- Persons wishing to apply on the basis of collecting either Ammunition or any type of Firearm should please take note of the requirements of the Firearms Control Act of 2000 and associated Regulations, in this regard.

 

- Membership on application, or based on the Membership of another Chapter or Organisation, is not automatic. The Association reserves its right to decline any applicant, or choose to accept the applicant for a probationary period, the term of which is entirely at the Associations discretion

 

Conditions of Membership

 

 Active participation in the Association

 Regular and timeous payment of all dues

 Adherence to the Associations constitution, mission and ideals at all times

 

Membership is at all times, subject to the requirements of the Firearms Control Act of 2000, as applicable.

 

The Association reserves its right to exclude any member or prospective member, who may be found to have made incorrect, misleading or untrue statements during the application process or subsequent thereto.

 

Additionally, inappropriate behaviour, actions or statements that may bring the Association into disrepute could also result in disciplinary action being taken.
